An international initiative for monitoring and verifying processes of producing clothes and other sewed products. It is an answer for unfair working conditions which are very common in the clothing industry. To eliminate them effectively, a transparent production chain is essential, that is way companies belonging to the Fair Wear Foundation have to meet rigorous criteria and to initiate a common managing system, which include::
gathering and keeping data about contractors
securing workers, their representatives or third parts for procedures of complaining
audit carried out in industrial plants by teams trained by the Foundation, and after it, initiating reparation plans
training for a staff
public reporting, and so on
A policy of the Foundation assumes that changes for real improvement of working condition are unrealizable without local manufacturers. That is why it emphasizes a co-operation between unit inspectors, employers' associations, and trade unions and NGOs. All for jointly ensuring an access to information, monitoring working conditions, shaping adequate reparation plans, and training workers in a field of their rights.
